I knew Alec & Sofie would be a dream to work with the moment they mentioned in their inquiry email that they wanted portraits with their beloved tabby cat, Cooper. On a chilly Friday afternoon in late November, I met the three of them at their south Minneapolis bungalow. Cooper understood the assignment perfectly, & I loved getting to document everyone in their element before heading downtown to their ceremony at the Minneapolis courthouse.
Alec & Sofie exude warmth & wholehearted presence - a quality that I saw mirrored all around them in the loved ones who joined them at the courthouse. The atmosphere was convivial, even through the shuffle of winter coats, accessories, & florals through the second floor metal detectors (always worth it for the view!) The vows Alec & Sofie delivered were the kind that conveyed not only a sincere & loving commitment, but a special kind of relational world building, one with their own unique, beautifully realized language, culture, & set of shared values - all clearly forged over many years of growing up together.
As the moon rose, the party scooted over to the Walker Art Center, where we created our own after hours photo adventure around the museum. The architecture, colors, & varying textures of the Walker were an apropos backdrop for Alec & Sofie, both visionary artists in their own right! We ended our session with Alec & Sofie heading into the Skyline Room to join their loved ones - a group which had multiplied in numbers as well as in merriment. Congratulations & many, many thanks to this really special duo!
